The idea of this work arises from the ubiquitous act of picture taking in both the professional and amateur realm where anyone can be a photographer, and when the primary purpose of picture taking is to imbue importance upon an event, no matter how banal.
I begin by finding pictures in the newspaper of people in the act of photographing. In some instances the people are documenting a personal event such as a wedding, in others it is reporters covering an event. In each case I have flipped and doubled a major portion of the newspaper picture to create a mirrored image.
The intent of the mirroring is to exaggerate the act of photographing, to amplify redundancy, to direct the subject of photographing against itself, and to produce what I regard as a stalemate or terminal point.
